Remember the old Alavar Seafood House along A. Velez Street in Cagayan de Oro City? Well, the famed Alavar Seafood Restaurant of Zamboanga City is back in Cagayan de Oro City. Alavar’s Seafood and Grill opened last Monday, September 8, 2014 along Aluba Road in Barangay Macasandig this city.

The restaurant is famous for its curachas (a crossbreed crustacean of a large crab and a spiny lobster) as shown below (photo from www.wazzuppilipinas.com). Owner Tessie Alavar is bringing them all the way from Zamboanga. Curacha is a Chavacano term for these specific crab species. Unlike other crabs where its meat is found in its claws, the bulk of curacha’s meat is in its body.

But aside from crabs and curachas, they also have other dishes. See their menu below.

You might notice the emphasis on Alavar Sauce…Well, it’s one sauce you shouldn’t miss. It is served together with their seafood dish but is also available in 500-gram packs worth P175.00.
