An old tribal burial ground was accidentally discovered in Barangay Tagpangi in Cagayan de Oro City.
Tagpangi is one o the city’s hinterland barangays. In a GMA news report, construction workers were said to be conducting excavation works for a new church of the Seventh Day Adventist when they chanced upon some skeletons, old clothes and jewelry which date back to the 18th century. It was later confirmed by the Higaonon tribe that the site was their ancestors’ burial ground way back in 1910. A representative of the Seventh Day Adventist clarified that the lot was donated by one of their members and they have no knowledge that it was an old burial ground.
Because of the discovery, the Higaonon tribe now wants to halt the construction of the church.
