River guides from the six whitewater river rafting outfitters of the city are now undergoing refresher course on basic life support and emergency aid at the City Tourism Hall as an offshoot of a tragic incident that resulted to the death of a 26-year old female tourist when the inflatable raft she and her companions rode on capsized after maneuvering a treacherous part of the Cagayan de Oro River on June 13, 2014.

The re-training is part of the initiatives taken by the Philippine National Red Cross and the Task Force Rapids, a body created by City Mayor Oscar Moreno and headed by City Tourism Consultant Dorothy Jean Pabayo who is tasked to formulate measures that would ensure the safety of the adventurers of whitewater river rafting, as well as craft and recommend regulatory policies of the industry to the mayor.
