The city government of Cagayan de Oro together with DOST-PAG-ASA and assisted by the Korean National Disaster Management Institute began the installation of the Early Warning System for Flash Flood Alert System (FFAS) in Northern Mindanao.

DOST-PAG-ASA currently have stream level sensors and rain gauges at Kagay-an, San Simon and Kabula Bridges. The project will install additional instruments for early warning system for flash flood. Shown below is the installation of a water level sensor at Puntod-Kauswagan Bridge. Additional rain gauges will also be installed at Maasin bridge in Barangay Nicdao, Baungon, Bukidnon.

The installation came a day after City Mayor Oscar Moreno, Mr. Yeo Woon-Kwang, President of the Korean National Disaster Management Institute; DOST-10 regional director Alberto Alamban and Dr. Vicente Malano of PAGASA signed the Momorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the operation and maintenance of the Flash Flood Alert System in Northern Mindanao during the project’s launching and information, education campaign held yesterday, January 23, 2014 at Chali Beach Hotel.
