The first Kuyamis Festival kicked off today at the Provincial Capitol Grounds with Coconut Products Display, Photo Exhibit, Sports Fest and Business Bazaar.
The 3-day event was officially opened today by Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano with Senator Cynthia Villar as special guest and focused on the province’s coconut industry with booths of different municipalities showing all kinds of products derived from coconuts. Read more about the festival HERE.
Press releases state Kuyamis is the original name of Misamis. It is a variety of sweet coconut, which was the staple food of the earliest known Negrito settlers of Misamis. The word “Kuyamis” was later corrupted to Misamis when the Spanish colonizers came.
