While traffic in Cagayan de Oro was very bad these past few days leading to Christmas Day, there were some commendable latest actions made by the City’s Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), one of which is the closing of the second pedestrian crossing (PedXing) along CM Recto Avenue between Gaisano Mall and Centrio.
As shown, steel railings were placed in the area thereby preventing pedestrians from using this crossing and instead use the only other crossing a few meters ahead. The good thing about this is that it prevented motorists from making an illegal U-turn in this lane. The new center island along CM Recto required motorists to have a U-turn only at the Osmeña Intersection. Meanwhile, the steel railings also prevented undisciplined drivers coming from Capt. Vicente Roa Street in making an illegal left turn along CM Recto and use the PedXing to access the westbound lane.
Foot traffic is heavy in this PedXing especially during rush hours and after mass schedules as church goers tend to cross over Centrio and Gaisano Mall.
