Groceries in Cagayan de Oro have been jampacked since Wednesday night as residents went into some sort of “panic buying” mode in anticipation of Super Typhoon Yolanda.

The middle to upper class flocked to large supermarkets such as Gaisano, Ororama, SaveMore & SM, Robinsons and Rustans while much of the lower class cramped public markets and local groceries La Victoria, Kmart and Ace De Oro, among others.

Most common items on their list are bottled water, canned goods, noodles, and biscuits/cookies. Rechargeable lamps, flashlights, batteries, and even rechargeable light with fans suddenly became short of supply since yesterday.

With experiences of Sendong and Pablo, residents are now fully aware of the impact of typhoons and are now preparing for the worst…even if the city is not within the direct path of the typhoon.
