Seven artists from Cagayan de Oro led by Oscar A. Floirendo, Nicholas Aca Jr., Errol P. Balcos, Michael E. Bacol, Michelle Hollanes Lua, Jericho Valjusto Vamenta and Ma. Rosalie Zerrudo will bring the city’s famed “motorela” to Singapore for the Singapore Biennale 2013, an exhibit showcasing various works of contemporary art from Singapore, Southeast Asia and Asia.
Images below taken from http://www.singaporebiennale.org shows the motorela prototype which will be showcased to the world. The seven artists called themselves SIETE PESOS and the motorela project as 2243: Moving Forward. The number “2243” actually refers to the patent number for the motorela, registered in 1964 by its inventor, Rafael D. Floirendo, Sr. The exhibit begins on October 26, 2013 and ends on February 16, 2014 and will be held at Our Museum @ Taman Jurong. This is the 4th edition of the Singapore Biennale and is visited by thousands of people from all over the world. Accordingly, the 2011 edition had 196,000 visitors.
Below are photos posted by Jhun Cadiz at Kagay-an Kaniadto Facebook page showing the original motorela (1966) and the latest motorela which will be showcased in the said Singapore event. Interestingly, both photos featured the same model, Ms Azucena Alcantara-Cadiz, Jhun’s mom – a span of 47 years.
