On February 2, 1998, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32 owned by Cebu Pacific Air crashed on the slopes of Mount Sumagaya in Claveria, Misamis Oriental, killing all 104 people on board. The crash was one of the deadliest aviation accidents in the Philippines.
The crash site is accessible only to mountain climbers. At the jump-off point at Mt. Lumot, a shrine was erected in remembrance of the Flight 387 crash victims.

Now, if you draw a straight line from Leyte Gulf to Lumbia, you will pass directly above the tall Sumagaya area.
