This is the second part of my previous post. Now what do we expect in 2013?
Here’s a rundown of what’s coming up this year.
Centrio Mall Anchor Stores
Centrio Mall’s anchor stores – Rustan’s Fresh and Robinsons Department Store where the missing links in the mall’s successful opening in November 2012. However, these two stores will make the mall complete when they open in the first few months of 2013.
J.Co Donuts & Coffee
J.Co, currently the most talked about donut outlet in Manila, will also be opening its branch at Centrio Mall, the first in Mindanao. Shown above is J.Co’s branch at SM Mall of Asia, where people are still queuing even if its closing time already.
Tune Hotel opening
The hotel is set to open in July. This is probably the first international brand hotel to open in the city. You can even book online for as low as P700 a night. Rooms are smaller but are cozy with complete amenities.
Centrio Tower Rising
With the foundation works now completed, the 24-storey Centrio (Avida) Tower is expected to rise above Ayala’s mall and hotel complex. This is set to be completed in two years time.
Puregold Construction and Opening
Retailer Lucio Co’s Puregold will open sometime in the third quarter of 2013. The patented green and yellow colored building at the former Ororama Megacenter site is expected to rival SM’s chain of SaveMore stores. It will be Puregold’s flagship store in Cagayan de Oro. It will be a hypermarket type with some spaces for tenants such as fast food, drugstore, services and banks.
Limketkai Gateway Towers Complex
Construction of the 33-storey Gateway Tower will continue as it rises alongside the topped off Hotel Limketkai. Hotel Limketkai could perhaps have a late 2013 opening? I am no feng shui expert but still I think the Chinese tradition will still dictate.
Other Limketkai Mall Developments
Construction is full blast for the hypermart and carpark area of Limketkai Mall’s East Wing. Rumors indicate a popular hypermarket chain in the country will occupy the hypermart area. Opening could perhaps be in the first half of 2013. However, an August inauguration could also well be accepted to coincide with the fiesta activities.
New tenants to occupy the various expansions in the mall complex are expected to surface during the year. The expansion areas include: Rosario Arcade bridge to Gateway, behind Starbucks and fronting MUST along CM Recto.
Meanwhile, the old Plaza Fair is now being re-constructed and in a few months time, the new tenant will be finally revealed.
SM Mall 2
This year, we may finally have the rendering of SM’s second mall in the city. With its constricted lot area, the second SM Mall in the city is rumored to be similar to The Podium, SM’s upscale mall located in Ortigas Center in Pasig City. This is just logical so as not to compete with SM City at Pueblo de Oro. Otherwise, SM City will be left to uptown residents as people would rather go to the more accessible downtown area.
Prior to site development, major demolition of existing structures of the old bottling facility will have to take place. Most probably or at the earliest, this will commence late in the year with full blast construction next year (2014). Still, SM is known for its fast construction work.
Camella Condo Homes
We may finally see the official public launching of Villar group’s first condo project in Cagayan de Oro. Perhaps, the ground breaking will follow next.
The Pelaez Group is now finishing the mall and convention center. I expect a late 2013 opening of the mall unless otherwise circumstances warrant its resetting again next year.
Johndorf Ventures Downtown Condo
With the success of its two uptown condo projects, Johndorf Ventures could well be developing their first downtown condo this year. Location? It’s along CM Recto-Osmena Street at the site currently occupied by a fuel refilling station.
Filinvest Mid-Rise Condo development
Although it has announced plans to put up a mid-rise condo complex in the city, there was nothing definite as to when it will implement it. However, things are getting brighter that Filinvest will finally make some movements at the project site beside the NMPSA firing range.
Vacation Hotel Lot
Soil testing was conducted recently at the old hotel site indicating a building is expected to rise in the said lot. We have some rumored info but will not disclose it until confirmed.
New branches for Gaisano/Ororama
Finally, the homegrown war between Gaisano and Ororama is expected to heat up again when they intend to put up satellite branches in the eastern part of the city, specifically at Puerto.
Of course, there will still be some other businesses sprouting in the city. These are small time players but still contribute to the city’s growth.
Laguindingan Airport Test Flight
And finally, test flights are reportedly set on Thursday, January 10, 2013… well, that’s according to the guard at the gate of Laguindingan Airport. Without the navigational aids, they will use Visual Flight Rule (VFR) as earlier announced.
