The four finalist cities represented the three Philippine island groups and the National Capital Region (NCR). Bacolod is the only city from the Visayas. The other three finalists are Olongapo City (Luzon), Cagayan De Oro (Mindanao) and Valenzuela City (NCR).

    CAGAYAN E ORO CITY (MINDANAO).

I LOVE MY CITY!! I LOVE CDO!!!

  11. Jah | CdeO says:

CdeO was earlier chosen by USAid as one of the 3 cities in the Philippines for its Cities Development Initiative. Once the CDI project shows its positive effect on CdeO, expect an even better, stronger CdeO.

  12. Jah | CdeO says:

If you recall, CdeO earlier made the cut in the USAid project called the Cities Development Initiative which is currently starting to be implemented here. There were only 3 cities selected in the whole Philippines for this project. Once its positive effects show up, we can expect nothing less than an even rapidly blooming, blossoming, and booming CdeO.

the creation of healing presence says, WAR STARTS AT HOME. if we chose war, then there will be conflict. if we chose to lead and renounce war, there will be peace. so it’s better if we start the change from ourselves. only then we could fight war and live peace. we the people in cdo are peacefully living in this island. hehe

  28. proud_kagayanon says:

Robinsons could have been more aggressive sa CDO since naa na sila dinhi but gi una man noon nila ang Butuan ug Isabela sa Luzon. Ang Isabela ika 34th na nila, maybe Butuan 35th and CDO nth na cguro, probably mga 2 years pa kay gapangita pa man diay ug lote. tabangi basig naay dool sa imo puesto hehehe.

  36. degie says:

    source please!!!!

  37. Aldatsky says:

@Martinique Binugok man nang imo bay kay dili man gyud nasud ang Cagayan de Oro dakbayan man na siya. Dili man siguro ka kabalo magbinisaya kay ang Iningles anang nasud kay “nation” man na siya. Unya wala man siguro ka kasabot ug “purchasing power”. Tinambanon na lang nato ug suma ha. Kini na lang nga pangutana: Kung wala pa’y purchasing power ang mga taga CDO ug Northmin unsa lugar ang pulos anang lig-on nga “retail sector” nga “purchasing power” man ang gabuhi ana?

Ug kung walay kay background sa economics, at least mas sayon ang research kay kinahanglan ka man lang ug sources which would consist of your empirical evidence but you need to substantiate everything before making a conclusion.

  40. cdonative says:

@mantiniques, asa man intawon nimo nakuha na info??? ang ako nahibaw-an ang ciudad karon kulilat sa Top Performing Cities based on independent studies from 2008 to present. But to say no purchasing power ang taga CDO, reality will repute that… pero Big change is on the way for CDO… this change will be BIGTIME… probably davao will be more insecure with the CHANGE…

  41. cdonative says:

@proud_tagoloanon, argue with me using your business sense kana kung naa LOL… kasabot ka unsay OPPORTUNITY LOSS ? kung wala pag research ug i apply ang caso sa Robinsons…

  42. mark says:

    masinahon.. hahahahaha..

  43. Aldatsky says:

By the way, purchasing power in the sense of economics is different from the layman’s point of view. In the economics sense, it deals with the ability of the currency to purchase goods and services over certain periods of time. It has something to do with inflation.

For sure bakak gyud na ang gisulat about purchasing power of residents kay dili man na mao ang ga i-measure ana nga concept. Seguro ang iyang huna-huna is the measurement of wealth in terms of monetary value which is very hard to measure taking into consideration the nature of people to understate their wealth to avoid taxation.

Social scientists usually use the measurable term of estimated income because income is measurable. Mao na ang buot ipasabot sa empirical evidence kay suportado man kana sa measurable variables that can be only done through census, survey or statistical research.

  44. Aldatsky says:

Purchasing power in this sense is used in “kinarsada” context and not in a higher intellectual context and to put a death blow to it in terms of words: IT IS A BLATANT LIE.

USAID sets economic aid to 3 Philippine cities seen as key growth areas

    by: Nestor P. Burgos Jr.
(Source: Inquirer Visayas News Online – 03/06/12)
ILOILO CITY, Philippines—The United States government has launched a comprehensive economic development program involving the pilot cities of Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and Batangas.

US Deputy Chief of Mission Leslie Bassett and Gloria Steele, director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID)–Philippines, signed a memorandum of understanding over the weekend with Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog in the launching of the Cities Development Initiative (CDI).

The program to be implemented by the USAID, the development arm of the US government, will focus on higher education, energy, environment, health, economic growth and investment sectors.

Bassett said the CDI formed part of the US-Philippines Partnership for Growth (PFG) launched last November, which has brought together 15 US federal agencies to provide assistance to promote economic growth in the Philippines.

“Growth is really key to ending poverty, to creating jobs, to building opportunities. President Aquino has made it one of the pillars of his administration. We think he is absolutely right and if there’s any way we can do to help boost growth a little bit more, I think that will benefit everybody,” Bassett told the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Saturday.

The CDI would focus on fast-tracking investments in the city through partnerships among the USAID, the city government, the business community, the academe and non-government organizations, she said.

Steele said the three cities were selected based on a set of criteria. These include the existence of a strong potential for development, a local government that is committed to economic reforms and good governance, a large number of educated and skilled human resource, and strong partnerships between the public and private sectors and non-government organizations.

Steele said the three cities were being eyed as key growth areas that would impact on neighboring communities.

“Iloilo City was selected as one of a small number of cities to become a ‘center of growth’ under the CDI because of its demonstrated economic potential. We applaud the commitment of Iloilo’s government to promoting good governance and attracting investment. It takes a strong partnership between the public and private sectors to work towards long-term and inclusive development,” Steele said.

The CDI would call for the synchronization and coordination of USAID projects in an area that would address key issues that hinder investments and growth. These include high electricity cost, water supply and sanitation, disaster risk management, streamlining of business processes, access to loans by businesses and lack of link between the academe and industries, according to Steele.

The five-year project will include USAID’s technical assistance, feasibility studies and loan guarantees to stimulate investments and growth.

US Ambassador graces launch of USAID project in Cagayan de Oro
    By Jorie C. Valcorza
    Saturday 30th of June 2012

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, June 30 (PIA) — United States Ambassador Harry K. Thomas graced the launch of US Agency for International Development (USAID) Cities Development Initiative (CDI) on June 29, Friday in Cagayan de Oro City.

USAID Mission Director for the Philippines Gloria D. Steele and City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano forged a memorandum of understanding, witnessed by the Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya and Department of Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Austere Padadero.

In his remarks, Ambassador Thomas stressed on the US government’s commitment to the Philippines.

“This occasion shows not only our commitment to you, but also the potential, that we believe that you have the transparency and honesty to undertake the program,” he said.

He also said that the Philippines is among four countries in the world which the US government, through the partnership for growth (PGF), brings 15 federal agencies to provide assistance that will advance the country’s economic development.

“We have recognized your tremendous efforts to rehabilitate and reconstruct your city from terrible devastation by tropical Sendong, last year. We know that CDI will prosper here, continuing the construction and development, as well as, in increasing the dynamism of the city,” he added.

He likewise commended the leadership of Emano and the people for maintaining the city’s long term economic growth.

Cagayan de Oro City is among the three CDI pilot areas in the country. The other two cities participating in the initiative are Batangas City and Iloilo City. This initiative according to USAID Mission Director Gloria D. Steele is piloting on something that none of any USAID offices around the world has done, that is, for cities to act as engines of economic growth. It is built on the premise that economic growth and job creation are closely linked to urban development.
