A more recent shot of the city’s rapidly growing commercial district along CM Recto Avenue.
In the foreground (bottom of picture) are Sabal Hospital, FICCO, Cagayan de Oro Medical Center, PhilamLife Bldg. and NEDA-X office. Right above them are Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Northern Mindanao Medical Center, and Provincial Capitol. Centrio complex comes next then a block of light commercial establishments before the former Coca-Cola Bottling Plant or the future site of 2nd SM mall. At the top of the picture of Limketkai Complex.
New buildings along this busy avenue continue to sprout and old structures are either being renovated or demolished. The influx of investments in this district has tremendously increased traffic woes as shown on the left of the picture. The opening of Ayala’s Centrio in October will definitely create the “grid-lock” of the said six-lane thoroughfare. In the near future, development of SM of their second mall will again create headaches for traffic administrators unless measures are implemented and new support facilities are constructed.
These three (3) big establishments will add to the existing foot traffic generated by Gaisano City Mall and existing buildings stated above. Walkbridges which would connect these huge malls would be a welcome development as it is safe, decreases stopover of public transport and does not occupy space on the ground (except for supports).
