For about 30 seconds or more, Cagayan de Oro felt one of the strongest earthquakes the city has experienced as a strong 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck off Eastern Samar at 8:47 p.m. tonight and a tsunami warning was issued for the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Japan, the US Geological Survey said.
The US Geological Survey said the quake had a depth of 33 kilometers (20 miles) and hit some 139 kilometers east of Sulangan. So far, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Based on initial reports gathered in social networking sites, the tremor was also felt in the provinces of Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Sarangani and Bukidnon as well as in the cities of Tagum, General Santos City and Davao.
