The long awaited dredging of Cagayan de Oro River has finally began.
Witnessed by DPWH Regional Director Evelyn Barroso, the activity began near the mouth of the river as shown below along Bonbon area. Accumulated aggregates are deposited right at an area within Bonbon. The dredging will move towards the upstream portion of the river.
The dredging operation is undertaken by the National Government with initial available funding of P610,000.00. The Regional Office will directly supervise the project in coordination with the Cagayan de Oro City First District Engineering Office. Spoil/containment area of materials is at barangay Bonbon thru a Barangay Resolution approved by Barangay Captain Allan Mabalacad. Permit from Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) is already at hand while the Environmental Clearance from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 10 is already on process. Even as the office is waiting for the approval of the DENR Environmental Clearance, the dredging equipment was already positioned since the accessories were already in place.
