The ongoing rehabilitation of the Iligan-Cagayan-Butuan-Road (ICBR) has so far showed some progress with some road concreting now underway on some sections of the highway linking the two cities.
Shown in the photos is the Gitagum Section of the highway in Misamis Oriental which is I think the longest section being worked by DPWH. Accordingly, the upgrading works are focused on the deteriorated parts of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) for about 8.212 kilometers in 0.10 meters thickness. Pavement markings are also included in the specification of works.
The project is under contract with Vicente T. Lao Construction with a contract amount of P107,313,749.76 and started last December 29, 2011 with an expiry date of December 29, 2012. As per DPWH, upon its completion, this part of the main thoroughfare of Region 10 will be used by the traveling public bound from east to west or anywhere in Mindanao with utmost assurance of its safety travel and much faster than before.
The road works which began a few months ago has caused inconvenience to travelers along this highway, adding a little over 30 minutes to the usual travel time.
