The formal inauguration of the Puerto Flyover was held today, September 21, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. with DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson, Cong. Rufus B. Rodriguez of 2nd Congressional District of Cagayan de Oro City, Mis. Or. Board Member Engr. Jimmy Caina representing Gov. Oscar Moreno, Vice-Mayor Ian Acenas representing Mayor Vicente Emano, Brgy. Chairman of Puerto with his barangay kagawads.
Officials with the DPWH Secretary are Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut, Asst. Secretary Emil K. Sadain, Regional Director Norma U. Gironella and DPWH-PBPO Project Director Oscar C. Villanueva. His Excellency Thierry Borja de Mozota, French Ambassador to thePhilippines, was also there gracing the inauguration.
The Puerto Flyover is specifically located at Butuan-Cagayan-Iligan Road (BCIR) crossing over the intersection ofSayre Highway. It links the west and east regional centers, cities and municipalities. Since 1990, there has been a continuous increase of population that is a contributory to the congestion in the area. The intersection cannot cater anymore to the needs of the traveling public that is why traffic congestion can be observe everyday specially on peak hours, thus this Flyover is being constructed.
The just completedPuerto-Sayre Highwayis a French-assisted project under the Mega Bridges for Urban and Rural Development Project (MBURDP) of DPWH-PBPO under the direct monitoring with the DPWH Regional Office No. 10 and in coordination with the local government of Cagayan de Oro City. It has a modular superstructure materials supplied by the Matiere S.A.S. Modular Steel Flyover of five (5) spans, four (4) piers, supported on 1.5 m diameter bored piles. The total length of the flyover is 195 linear meters with road approaches of 120.00 linear meters with 7.5 linear meters in width. The project costs P362,950,932.96. The construction started last March 28, 2011 and was completed five (5) months after, August 27, 2011 to be exact.
