Host Misamis Oriental Meteors relied on a strong start and thwarted a spirited rally by the Laguna Golden Lions of Gov. ER Ejercito and Coach Philip Cezar, to prevail, 92-85 in the SMC Liga Pilipinas Super Leg at the Xavier University Gymnasium.

The Meteors led by as much as 19 points midway in the third period, 62-43 before the Lions, behind  Bryan Faundo and Glenn Bolocon rallied to within six, 80-86, less than a minute left. However, Neil Raneses proved to be steady from the free throw line down the stretch to preserve the win.

Lyndon Gudez finally found his shooting touch to lead the Meteors with 19 points while Raneses added 14 points. Faundo paced the Golden Lions with 17 markers and seven rebounds followed by Bolocon and Robert Sanz with13 apiece.

In the second game, Mandaue routed MP Warriors of GenSan, 77-58 to set up a knockout game against the Meteors for the right to face defending National Champions M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Ninos for the championship.
