Cagayan de Oro’s Rizal Monument

The Rizal Monument at Cagayan de Oro’s Golden Friendship Park is one of the oldest structures in the city.

And it is just logical that certain groups opposed the planned renovation by the Yuchengco Group to which the details of the plan was never published on disclosed in public.

Perhaps this is the only or one of the few places in the city where the public can read Spanish as shown below.

The Rizal marker reads as follows:

RIZAL! PARA PERPETUA TU MEMORIA. TE DEDICAMUS ESTE RECUERDO, HUMILDE SI, PERO CON ELLO VAN NUESTROS MAS CAROS AFECTOS  BROTADOS DESDE EL FONDO DE NUESTRAS ALMAS Y, A TODO KAGAYAN QUE TE VENERA, SIRVALE DE GUIA PARA SEGUIR TU EJEMPLO.

Porfirio Chaves y

Fausta V de Chaves

19 de Junio de 1917

Right below the inscription are “Garcia Velande” – did I get it right? and Carriedo 343  345 which are written so small that nobody will notice it..

Garcia Velande                   Carriedo 343 345
