The Misamis Oriental Meteors put on a stiffling defense in the fourth quarter to beat archrival and defending National Champion M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Ninos, 76-61 before a packed Xavier University Gym to grab the weekly championship of the Misamis Oriental Leg of the SMC Liga Pilipinas Conference V.

Ex-Cebu Ninos Ron Capati and Dino Daa combined for 17 of the Meteors’ 25 fourth period scores for MisOr’s first leg championship.

The Meteors’ defense limited M. Lhuillier to only one field goal in the final seven minutes. Meteors guard Egay Billones was named as the Most Valuable Player after averaging 11.8 points a contest.

Capati finished with 18 points and eight rebounds while MVP Billones added 13 points.

The Meteors beat Mandaue last Friday, 80-74 for a sweep in the MisOr Leg.

After the game, it was announced that the hosting rights of the Super Leg that will determine the next National Champion has been awarded to the Meteors. The Super Leg will be held from July 12 to 17.
