Some 1,485,535 travelers visited Northern Mindanao last year, a remarkable 41 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Some generous individual provided me data from the regional office of the Department of Tourism and lo and behold, nearly half a million more tourists toured the region in a single year. Also, the average hotel occupancy rate in the region is around 66 percent in 2010. As shown in the table below, Cagayan de Oro – Misamis Oriental had a very high 80 percent average hotel occupancy rate. This proves why the hotel industry is booming in the city.

The region also has become a major venue for conventions, seminars/workshops and other gatherings. The table below is self-explanatory. Note the red font – 388 percent increase in conventions held. Also, a 187 percent increase in the number of national conventions.

Below is the distribution of travelers in Region 10 for 2010. Note that the top foreigners visiting the region are the Americans, Koreans and Chinese in that order. Germans comprise the top European visitors.
As they say, Northern Mindanao is becoming one of the major tourist destinations in the country.
