A model mini fish processing plant will soon rise inside the campus of the Mindanao State University (MSU) – Naawan, Misamis Oriental, to develop and refine the hatchery technology of Siganid, Siganus Guttatus, locally known as “Kitong” in Visayan or “Padas” in Tagalog.

With a Php2.5-million budget funded by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the plant is expected to answer the need of increasing fish production without sacrificing the mangroves, sea grass beds or coral reefs.
