World-rated and undefeated Filipino flyweight Milan “El Metodico” Melindo (24-0 8KO) dropped Mexico’s Rosendo Vega (16-7 11KO) twice to win by first round knockout in their 10-round contest Saturday night at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City.

Melindo dropped Vega on the seat of his pants with a perfectly-timed uppercut. Vega tried to fight back aggresively but was again caught by another uppercut as referee Bruce McTavish reached the count of 10 at 2:59 of the very first round.

Melindo who is from Cagayan de Oro, is ranked No. 3 by the IBF and is in line for a title shot at reigning flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane of South Africa should Mthalane win in his scheduled title defense against another Filipino, Johnreil Casimero on March 26.
