Cagayan de Oro City will soon have a 10,000-seat capacity indoor sports complex.
This after Second District Representative Rufus B. Rodriguez filed HB 03662 authorizing the construction of a sports complex in the city. As planned, the P700 million indoor fully equipped modern sports complex will cater to various indoor sport events such as taekwondo, karate and fencing. This will complement the existing outdoor stadium of Pelaez Sports Complex. Once operational, this will boost the city’s chances of hosting major sports events and competitions in the country, and perhaps in the Southeast Asian Region.
With regards to the location of the facility, the lawmaker said site selection should be properly coordinated with the city government and to avoid delays or minimize costs, it is preferred that the sports complex be built on public land.
I posted last October 1, 2010 “City mulls world-class sports facility“, where the planned location is in Lumbia as suggested. The site is also believed to be public land.
With 10,000 seats, it has to be three times as big as the Xavier University Gym, currently the biggest indoor facility in the city. The new Naga City Gym shown below has a capacity of 10,000. This was inaugurated in September last year.
