The National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA)- Northern Mindanao Chapter will host the month-long celebration of the National Arts Month this Feb. 2011.
The celebration adopts the theme “Panagtagbo Mindanao” which highlights the gathering of the artists from Visayas and Mindanao. The event will cover the following activities:
“Panagtagbo” Visual Arts Exhibit, Feb. 11 to 27, 2011 at SM Cagayan de Oro City. The exhibit will display works by known visual artists from Visayas, Cebu, Bohol, Dumaguete and Cagayan de Oro whose works have been influenced by the Visayan and Mindanaoan cultures.
“Photowalk and Photo Art Exhibit for a Cause” A group Photography Exhibit, Feb. 10-27, 2011 at Tourism Showhouse, Divisoria Park, Cagayan de Oro. Accomplished photographers from Visayas and Cagayan de Oro will assemble their photography works.
“Art Attack in Divisoria Park” on Feb. 13 to 15 at Magsaysay Park, Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro. The award winning youth organization, Dire Husi, will showcase various talents like, human statues, firedancers, percussionist and capoeira dancers performs at the busy district of the City.
“Dire Husi Street Art Exhibit” Feb. 14 to 28, 2011 at 9-21st St. Nazareth, Cagayan de Oro City. Recycled materials will be utilized to create art installations and sculptures to promote environmental awareness.
Rhyan Casiño, Designated NCCA Northern Mindanao Coordinator, said the event provides an opportunity for the artists to bring in their innovative, inherited rich traditional arts that thread through the contemporary art.
The Visual arts exhibit will take place at three locations at SM, Tapa’s Grill and the Provincial Capitol Office to accommodate all the artworks which will be curated by Melissa Abugaa.
An opening program will be held on Feb. 11, 2011 at SM, Pueblo de Oro, Cagayan de Oro City. Prior to this, an Art Talk will be shared by renowned artists about the basic techniques in art. Interested participants are welcome to attend the said orientation.
Casiño also mentioned that there will be a press conference on Feb. 9, 3:00 p.m. at Tapa’s Grill which will be attended by several artists and the NCCA NM Task Force to share information regarding the event.
