Northern Mindanao, with Valencia City in Bukidnon in particular has offered to be the site for a proposed airport in Mindanao’s heartland.
This after President Benigno Simeon Aquino has tasked the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to conduct a feasibility study for a an airport “more central in Mindanao so that distances to and from various areas will make more economic sense.”
The towns of Don Carlos and Maramag have also proposed sites for the airport which is being eyed to be constructed in Bukidnon.
There used to be an airport in Casisang, Malaybalay City utilized by small planes but is now fully converted into a thriving residential community.
Valencia is a good site being a vast plateau with endless stretch of flat lands. The only obstacle is Mt. Calayo, a dormant volcano in nearby Dologon in Maramag town, which is near the boundary of Valencia City. The size of the airplanes could also be limited to the smaller turbo-props currently used in the Cagayan de Oro-Davao flights.
