A P4-MILLION electronic library and activity room will be set up in Barangay Iponan, Cagayan de Oro City.
The City Government will fund the e-library, which will be constructed near the barangay hall anytime in January.
Iponan village Chief Anthony O. Brilleta said the e-library will house 20 computers that would store 1,000 volumes of e-books to be provided by the Mindanao State University.
The e-library’s card catalogs will be accessed through the Internet and research materials will be converted into microfilms and compact discs for easy storage.
Brilleta said doing research through the e-library is basically the same as going to the library.
“The only difference is that the researcher or user can have faster results without hassle,” he added.
Those who want to visit the e-library and do research will have to pay a minimal fee for the maintenance of the building and extra income of the barangay, the village chief said.
The e-library is expected to open to the public on February 1 in time for the village’s fiesta celebration.
Brilleta also said there will be an area within the e-library building where the youth can hold recreation activities. He added that this aims to help the youth “shy away from vices.”
The village chief said he wants his project for this year to be related with modern technology so villagers in Iponan would not be left behind.
