The government has conferred the Mindanao Railway Project Office (MRPO) based in Cagayan de Oro City as a permanent office under the Philippine National Railways (PNR) only in November this year.
According to Salic S. Darimbang, civil engineer for MRPO, that its Cagayan de Oro office will be in-charge to oversee the railway projects and operations in Mindanao, thereby making it as a satellite for the Mindanao Railway Corporation (MRC).
The MRC was created through the Private-Public Partnership (PPP) agenda of the Aquino administration. And Darimbang said the 15th Congress has approved its application as permanent office for long term railway operation in Mindanao.
Darimbang expressed noble appreciation for the installation of the project office, as he foresees Mindanao to be the next hub for big investments in the future.
It was Mandangan Darimbang, the MRPO head and concurrent regional director for the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), who brought home the good news for Mindanao from the big city.
“Sa awa ng Diyos pumasa sa Congress na maging permanent railway office itong MRPO dito sa Mindanao,” said the top official of MRPO-Cagayan de Oro which was created on July 3, 2009.
Darimbang also announced that construction of the 124-kilometer railway in Mindanao that will connect Jasaan town and Laguuindingan town in Misamis Oriental will soon start.
The said project, Darimbang said, has around $1.33 billion budget targeted to be completed by 2013 with financial requirements spurred from the Philippines’ partnership with China and Saudi Arabia as the investing countries.
