THE recently-concluded Nanuri 4th Inter-School Spelling Bee Competition 2010 held at the SM Atrium, SM City, last November 28 has been a resounding success with the participation of various accredited private elementary and public schools in Cagayan de Oro.

Anchored on the theme, “Building Leaders Through Healthy Competitions”, the competition, intended only for Grade 4 up to Grade 6 pupils, aims to develop and instill competitive attitudes among students and to improve their English language proficiency, assist students in developing good spelling habits, expand the students’ ability in expressing themselves in all areas of communication, develop the awareness of accurate usage of words and vocabulary, and for the young students to expand their vocabulary and enhance the basic English language skills through listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

The school that emerged as champion was Corpus Christi Grade School (Akila Gabrielle O. Boloto, Mary Amethyst J. Dasadas, Kris Valerie S. Navidad); 1St Runner Up: Montessori De Oro (Celine Mae Dael, Miguel Luis Quimbo, Louis Noble); 2nd Runner Up: Agusan Elementary School (Franilyn C. Abarabar, Leanne Patricia C. Eduria, Cassandra Isabel A. Soriano); 3rd Runner Up: Xavier University Grade School (Normin Gem U. Tubaon, Jhurielle Carino, Danielle Dianne Ratang); 4th Runner Up: Gusa Elementary School (Julianne Marie L.Bajao, Daniela V. Yamut, Regem Jose Marie V. Panal)

Present to grace the annual competition was Dr. Jonathan T. Casio, MPH, MAHad, DPA Hospital Director, Cagayan de Oro Medical Center.

The event was a joint undertaking by the Nanuri International School, SM City Cagayan deOro, DepEd Region X, Diwa Distrinet, Inc., Vibal Publishing, Alfe Commercial, Copylandia, Rover Eagle Security Agency, Vertical Home Builders, Inc., John Offset Publishing, KAGAY Water Rafting Adventure, Time Life.
