THE National Statistics Office in Northern Mindanao will hold the 19th Philippine Statistics Quiz regional elimination on November 23, 2010 at the Grand Caprice Restaurant in Limketkai Center.
Five provinces in Northern Mindanao will be represented by 14 college students from 11 schools/university/colleges in their respective areas.
The students and their school/college and respective coaches include from Bukidnon — Michael Bonn A. Bonifacio, Glory May C. Padillo and Mark Dinnifer T. Reyes with their coaches Noel C. Sieras of Central Mindanao University and Noel B. Lacpao of Bukidnon State University; from Camiguin — Rejet P. Adlao and Nikki G. Rosaluna with their coaches Rex C. Montejo of Camiguin Polytechnic State College and Alfredo Dahan of Fatima College of Camiguin; from Lanao del Norte — Cristie Marie G. Aguinid, Clint Drexel M. Ongue and Jan Philippe B. Sambo with their coaches Melchor D. Toylo of North Central Mindanao Colleges, Phoebe A. Sombilon and Catherine R. Caño of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology; from Misamis Occidental — Kynn P. Caluna, Prince Nixon S. Gomos (La Salle University) and Oliver M. Olhon with their coach. Aida Lasaca of Misamis University; from Misamis Oriental — John Moises R. Mangubat, Ruben A. Legaspi and Virgil Christian G. Castillo with their respective coaches Joseph B. Ajan Jr. of Liceo de Cagayan University, Zeny L. Maureal of Mindanao University of Science and Technology and Diana Jane N. Macalong of Xavier University.
The PSQ is an annual contest designed to test first year college student’s knowledge of Statistics. It assesses their competency and skills acquired from the secondary education curriculum and enhances, promotes and instills awareness and appreciation of the importance of the science of statistics.
The contest also generates public awareness on the important applications of statistical data in all development-planning activities.
The sole winner of the regional elimination round will compete in the National Finals to be held in Manila on December 8, 2010. (Press Release)
