A P1.1 million Bagsakan Center (BC) will soon be established at the Westbound Terminal and Public Market in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.
This after the City Council passed a resolution on Wednesday allowing the City Government to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the establishment of the Bagsakan Center, which is a food depot and distribution system that would offer safe and quality agri-fishery products to consumers at low prices.
The project is in consonance with the DA’s program that specifically addresses five major concerns — food security, poverty alleviation and social equity, income enhancement and profitability of farmers, and global competitiveness and sustainability by providing sufficient, quality and low price wage goods.
Through the Bagsakan Center, farmers can bring their produce in bulk for sale directly to wholesalers, retailers and consumers at fair prices.
Potential farmers-suppliers of the Bagsakan Center will be identified with Cagayan de Oro farmers as priority who will be issued identification cards to ensure traceability and responsibility in producing safe and quality farm products.
A Bagsakan management team will be created that would handle the buying and selling of selected vegetables at the site. The team members will also be responsible for the identification of buyers for the vegetables.
Also, a marketing system will also be implemented to screen the maximum residue limit of certain fruits and vegetables for them to be safe for consumption.
