THE Couples for Christ (CFC), a private lay association of pontifical right, celebrates the 23rd anniversary of its founding in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental from Nov. 19 to 20 on the theme “Fullness of Life in Christ – Build on Christ “, taken from Colossians 2:6-7.
At 1 pm today, the first-ever Northeastern Mindanao Congress on Clergy-Lay Relations will open at the Grand Caprice Restaurant, Limketkai Center. It will be keynoted by Archbishop Antonio J. Ledesma, SJ, of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, who will talk on “Integrity of Creation and Peace-Building”, and by Bro. Joe Tale, chairman of the CFC International Council who will exhort the CFC community, followed by insights into CFC life shared by select members of the clergy.
A Concelebrated Mass at 6 pm will cap the congress’ formal session, after which an informal program within a two-hour dinner-fellowship will showcase varied talents highlighting the camaraderie between the clergy and the CFC lay leaders, whose “expanded mission” is to build the Church of the Home and the Church of the Poor in oneness with the Catholic Church.
Northeastern Mindanao covers what has been traditionally referred to as the “Cabustam” Ecclesiastical Area – comprised by the provinces covered by the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro and the Dioceses of Butuan, Surigao, Tandag, and Malaybalay – whose clergy and CFC lay leaders were invited to the Congress through a joint letter from Bishop Ledesma and Bro. Joey Arguelles, CFC Church Liaison In-Charge and Provincial Area Head of Misamis Oriental.
A minimum of 45 priests and three Bishops within Cabustam are expected to come to a fellowship with close to two hundred members of the CFC Mission Core and Provincial Councils from Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Bukidnon, a truly great activity that precedes a greater one being readied for April 2011, when a yet bigger Clergy-Lay Congress convenes again in Cagayan de Oro City for the International Leaders Conference of some 10,000 members of the CFC Youth for Christ.
The grand celebration of CFC Misamis Oriental’s 23rd Anniversary will be held at the Provincial Capitol’s MacArthur Park tomorrow afternoon. There, the motorcade of CFC members from east and west of Cagayan de Oro will converge with CFC members from the central part of the City for the following activities: dance presentations by the family ministries and CFC sectors, inspirational and anniversary messages by members of the CFC International Council, and Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Archbishop Ledesma.
Praisefest and fireworks display on Saturday evening will end the festive 23rd Anniversary Celebration by the CFC faithful, who will joyfully serve their respective parishes in the triumphant celebration of the Feast of Christ the King the following day, Sunday.
