All 2,022 barangays in Northern Mindanao or 100 percent have conducted the elections, peacefully and the winners already proclaimed, except in some areas where there is a tie.
This assessment already includes the seven (7) barangays of Lanao del Norte whose election for barangay and sangguniang kabataan (SK) officials was held on Oct. 26, 2010, due to the non-appearance of the Board of Election Tellers last Oct. 25, Atty. Renato A. Magbutay, Regional Elections Director (RED), region 10, said.
Resetting the elections to Oct. 26, 2010 or Oct. 27, 2010, as the case may be, was allowed pursuant to Resolution No. 9078 promulgated by the Commission on Elections last Oct. 24 on joint recommendation of the Municipal Election Officer, the City/Municipal Treasurer and the Board of Election Tellers (BET).
Magbutay, however, said they have yet to receive the actual number of barangays in the region where candidates receive an equal number of votes for certain positions, which may have to be settled by tossing a coin.
He said a total of 65,815 individuals have filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) for positions ranging from Barangay Chairperson (BC), Barangay Kagawad (BK), SK Chairperson (SKC) and SK Kagawads (SKK) in the region.
Of these candidates, 32,450, that is, 2,022 each will fill the posts of BC and SKC, while 14,203 each will fill the post of BK and SKK, since each barangay is entitled to elect a set each of a chairperson and seven (7) kagawads for both the Barangay and SK Councils.
Magbutay said region 10 has a total of 2,022 barangays from 93 cities and municipalities coming from its five (5) provinces: Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental.
It has a total registered voters of 2,440, 848, of whom 2,324,942 or 95.25 percent are regular voters or voters with ages 18 years and above who can vote for the barangay officials and 115,906 or 4.75 percent who are 15 years and below 18 yrs. who can only vote for the SK officials in their barangays.
