The completion of the Cagayan de Oro International Convention Center will be realized soon after DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson recently informed the office of Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez of the November or December release of the remaining P200 million.
Accordingly, the P200 million was already approved during the last administration but has not been released yet. Construction for the completion is expected to resume early next year.
Despite the current absence of a viable convention center, Cagayan de Oro City has seen numerous national and regional conventions at the start of the year 2000. This is because of its strategic location, which makes it accessible by air, land and sea from Manila and Visayas.
We can only hope that this project will finally have its completion. However, once this is finished, the problem of accessibility will soon crop up because the site is in Taguanao and at the top of the hill. A shuttle service from the hotels would be a viable option…perhaps the event organizer will always consider this option. Otherwise, nobody would want to go there.
