THE CAGAYAN de Oro Writers Bloc was recently established as a community of multi-genre writers based in Cagayan de Oro City. It includes playwrights and writers in film, Visayan and English poetry, historical fiction, short story and art.

The birth of the Bloc was facilitated by nationally acclaimed poet and Palanca awardee Ricky de Ungria, a pillar of the UP Writers Workshop and former chancellor of UP Mindanao. De Ungria is also chair of the NCCA’s Sub-Commission on Arts. He is adviser of the Bloc.

The Cagayan de Oro Writers Bloc aims to achieve visibility and presence in the Mindanao literary world so that it may become the hub of Northern Mindanao writers.

The organization of the Bloc was hosted by Capitol University Press, which aims to engender the writing of Mindanao scholarship.

Elected officers were Zola Gonzalez Macarambon of CU Press as president (fellow of Iligan Writers Workshop in the field of English poetry); Raul Moldez (Visayan poetry) as vice president; Jayson Eduria Parba of Capitol University (fellow of Iligan and the Davao Writers Workshop in the field of short story) as secretary; Kelly Ramos Palaganas (art writing) as PRO; and Geldolin Inte of Capitol University (historical fiction) as treasurer.

Nine writers comprise the initial nucleus of the Bloc.
