Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday assured to release P20 million in funding for the development of the Cagayan de Oro Resettlement and Socialized Housing Project-Phase 2 at sitio Calaanan in barangay Canitoan, this city.
The funding release was announced by Vice President Binay when he led the distribution of titles that benefited 57 urban poor recipients in a ceremony held September 29, 2010 at the City Tourism Hall.
“Iyon pong hinihingi ni Mayor Dongkoy Emano na P20 million ay i-release po namin iyon sa lalong madaling panahon (We will release the P20 million funding requested by Mayor Emano as soon as possible),” Binay told the ecstatic crowd.
When Mayor Emano accompanied the Vice President during a visit to the city’s 63-hectare relocation site in Canitoan last September 17, Binay was impressed with the concept of the city government’s controversial ‘Piso-Piso’ land distribution program.
“Marami na akong nakita na programa sa pagtulong ng mga mahihirap sa pamamagitan ng pamimigay ng lupa. Pero noong malaman ko ang programa ni Mayor Dongkoy Emano, wala na po yatang makagaya nito,” an amused Vice President said of the ‘Piso-Piso Program’ even as he lauded Mayor Emano as the ‘champion of the poor’ for initiating the P1 per lot program.
“Ipinagmalaki ko po sa amin ang pamimigay ng lupa ng P30 per square meter noong 1980’s. Pero si Mayor Dongkoy, Peso kada lote? Ngayon lang ako nakakita noon. Hindi na yata mapaparesan iyon,” added Binay, comparing his own version of land distribution program for the poor when he was still the mayor of Makati City.
The titles’ beneficiaries under the National Housing Authority (NHA) community mortgage program belonged to the city’s urban poor groups, namely: Kauswagan-Bonbon Interiors Neighborhood Association, Inc.; Paglaum Settlers Association, Inc. in Carmen; Zupla Chavez Compound and Macabalan-Puntod Slum Improvement and Resettlement Project.
