LAWYERS from the eastern and western parts of Mindanao are set to convene in Cagayan de Oro City for the 2nd Mindanao Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Convention and Olympics on Sept. 30 and October 1-2, respectively, at the Xavier Sports and Country Club.
Around 1,000 lawyers from all over Mindanao are expected to attend this year’s IBP gathering, anchored on the theme “Mindanao Lawyers: Towards a responsive justice system in the new decade”.
The three-day affair, a staff from the IBP-Misamis Oriental Chapter office said, will enable the lawyers and the invited prosecutors to draft plans that will contribute to the improvement of the country’s justice system.
“This second congregation of lawyers in Mindanao will discuss and find common ground for a responsive justice system to the less fortunate people’s advantage. Of course, it’s also another chance for us to rekindle old ties and renewing acquaintances,” said Dale Bryan D. Mordeno, IBP president for Misamis Oriental Chapter.
Hosted by the IBP-Misamis Oriental Chapter, Mordeno said the convention will be graced by no less than President Benigno Aquino III. Chief Justice Renato C. Corona and Justice Secretary Leila Delima are also expected to attend the gathering.
“The honorable men’s thoughts and ideas will hopefully provide a beacon in the elevation of the standards of the legal profession,” Mordeno said, adding “We also eagerly anticipate inputs to further the administration of justice as a necessary tool to propel the island of Mindanao to great heights of political, social and economic stability”.
Sports competitions in practical shooting, badminton, basketball, volleyball, bowling, billiards, lawn tennis, dart, chess, golf and poker will also serve as major highlights of the IBP convention.
Participants include lawyers from the local IBP chapters of Cotabato City, north and south Cotabato provinces, Lanao del Norte and Sur provinces, Occidental Misamis province, Sultan Kudarat, Zamboanga Norte and Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Saranggani province in the western part; as well as Agusan Sur and Norte, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Davao del Norte and del Sur, Davao Oriental, Oriental Misamis, Surigao del Sur and del Norte from the eastern part of Mindanao.
