The Misamis Oriental Meteors will renew their rivalry with defending Liga Pilipinas champion ML Kwarta Padala Cebu Niños when they battle for the first Tournament of the Philippines (TOP) best-of-5 title series. This after Cebu swept Treston-Laguna in their own best-of-three semifinal series.
The Meteors did not make any sweat as Taguig-Bihon failed to show up for their semifinal series and won by default. Accordingly, Taguig had some administrative problems.
Games 1 and 2 will be played at the New Cebu City Coliseum on September 7 and 8. This will be the two team’s third title showdown.
The Meteors of Coach Jun Noel and Gov. Oscar Moreno will bank on Patrick Cabahug, ex-pro Neil Rañeses, Eder Saldua, ex-pro Mark Andaya and local guards Ramil Tagupa and Mark Moreño. Just recently, MisOr acquired the services of ex-Barako Bull Reed Juntilla to further beef up its scoring punch.
Cebu on the other hand will rely on old hand Stephen Padilla, Bruce Dacia, Ariel Mepaña, Ian Saladaga and Marlon Basco. A recent addition of the squad will be point guard ex-pro Froilan Baguion.
