After a resounding success of the Manila Symphony Orchestra at Rodelsa Hall, another great event is in the offing featuring the country’s top trio. This rare musical spectacle will feature the musical prowess of Victor Coo, star cellist of the Philippines; Joseph Esmilla, one of the country’s top violinist and Filipino piano virtuoso Rudolf Pelaez Golez. The program consists of the great masterpieces for Trio including Joseph Haydn’s Trio in C Major, Piazolla Concierto para Trio and the large-scale work will be the Trio in B Major #1 by Johannes Brahms.
Although the conventional venue for Trio or any Chamber Music concert is a small room or house, the Rodelsa Hall will give a “house feel” or chamber sound due to its superb acoustics brought about by a soundboard at mid-stage. This variable acoustic system makes Rodelsa Hall one of the most versatile venues in the country, capable of presenting any type of music. Rodelsa Hall is the only performing arts venue in Mindanao and has already catered performances by national and international artists and has wowed audiences over the years.
Moreover, the members of the Trio are first and foremost celebrated soloists thereby allowing for maximum projection of their respective renditions. The featured artists have been concertizing all over the world and listening to them up-close is without a doubt an experience non par.
Victor Coo has been hailed as one of the great artists of his generation having won several international competitions including the Homer Ulrich Award form the University of Michigan and the much coveted Casadesus Prize in France. He was part of the New England Youth Ensemble as principal cellist and soloist. Joseph Esmilla on the other hand is a Juilliard School Alumnus and has been a violinist for the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra for eight seasons. He has extensively performed as a recitalist and chamber musician in Asia, Europe and America. Rudolf Golez completes the powerhouse triad with an impressive experience in music that includes a pre-college education in Juilliard School of Music under the tutelage of Seymour Lipkin. Rudolf is also the sole prizewinning pianist at the 1st Asean International Chopin Piano Competition and has performed at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai , China as part of the Philippine artists’ delegation.
Adding significance to the event is the concert’s beneficiary, the flagship foundation of Liceo de Cagayan University, the Safer River Life Saver Foundation, Inc. Part of the event proceeds will help in the projects initiated by the foundation in its work towards the protection and sustainable development of a very vital natural resource, the Cagayan de Oro River.
Three critically-acclaimed musicians in one memorable musical extravaganza at an astounding venue for one significant cause, truly more than three reasons to experience Trio the Concert this coming September 2, 2010, 8PM only at Rodelsa Hall.
