SPYTHE Global, a coconut-based sugar manufacturer in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, is targeting at least 20 to 30 tons of finished products per month, as it claimed high demand in organic sugar abroad.
Joy Aster Gamolo, Spythe Global owner, said this is to cope up with the increasing demand on sugar exports in Japan, Europe and in the United States of America.
Gamolo claimed no difficulties in producing such amount to supply the demand since the sugar plantation can produce one ton of finished products in one hectare land.
However, she did not elaborate more on the details of the number of hectares the sugar company is utilizing.
Spythe Global started with a three-man labor in the production of three kilos each month in 2002 until it increased its sales by tons after four years of perfecting the product.
“We just got out in the market in 2006, producing not less than a ton of finished product every month,” Gamolo said in an interview during the one-town one-product (OTOP) coordinators’ conference on Friday at Pearlmont Hotel.
“Despite all the problems we encountered…if we talk about problems, we cannot finish discussing it the whole day,” she added.
Spythe Global’s coconut-based sugar, a high-end product, is available in malls and other big stores in Cagayan de Oro.
“It’s expensive, though, but it has several benefits, especially for diabetic patients who would really want to use sugar in their food and beverages,” Gamolo said, as she encouraged local government units to invest in organic sugar manufacturing to reach the high demand abroad.
She said there is a bright future in coconut sugar production.
Gamolo said Spythe Global is employing at least eight to 10 workers in every hectare of land plantation, which is a “great help to the local government unit of Balingasag.
Spythe Global was recently recognized in the national level for being a high-performing company in the sugar industry.
