GMA Network is set to open its regional television station in Cagayan de Oro in September.

Mariles Puentevella, GMA Network consultant for Mindanao and the station manager of GMA Davao, said they are now in the thick of preparation and has already opened a temporary office at the second floor of Hotel Conchita in Cogon.

I’ve learned that GMA was the first station in Cagayan de Oro to have local broadcast (GMA TV-12) way back in the 90s (Newscope) with the likes of Raf Benaldo and Dolly Ilogon Talag. It was the first taste for Cagayanons seeing local talents on the TV screen. Correct me if I’m wrong, it was owned back then by Sarraga family.

Years passed and GMA TV-12 somehow ceased their local broadcast and concentrated on beaming Manila-based shows. Then rival ABS-CBN came to CDO and eventually took over….in reality CDO has become a Kapamilya city.

GMA may now try to reinvent itself with their own studio. Perhaps, we may know soon where this studio will be.
