MISAMIS Oriental Provincial Capitol appears to make it a “happy fiesta” for Cagayan de Oro chess players by sponsoring a cash-rich pre-fiesta event.

It’s actually a two-division tourney for the so-called “Misamis Oriental Chess Cup 2010 (All Weather Chess Tournament in the Park)” to kick off on August 21 at the Vicente de Lara Park Capitol Compound in Cagayan de Oro City.

In the Open Category, the breakdown of prizes sent to Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro reads the champion out to receive the lion’s share of P20,000 plus trophy.

Second to 5th placers will go home with P10,000, P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000. The rest in the top-10 circle will get P1,000 each with registration fee being pegged at P250.

“We have also a category for kiddies 14 and below nga among nasabotan nga i-move to September 7-9 at same venue para diretso na pud dayon sa Cagayan de Oro leg Shell Active tourney (September 11-12 at City Tourism Hall),” National Master Roly Tan told this writer recently.

The top-3 kiddies will win P6,000, P3,000 and P2,000 plus trophies. Entry fee is
P100.

“Dili na siguro ni ma-cancel kay naka-post naman. So, pasalamat ta’g dako kay Vice Governor Norris C. Babiera nga mao daw ang nag-sponsor ini nga event. Buhi
na sab atong dugo,” said candidate master Johnnel Balquin.

Around 500 kiddies and juniors throughout Region 10 are also set to converge in Cagayan de Oro for the Shell Active tourney’s first leg in Mindanao.

“Mapasalamaton usab kita kay Mayor Vicente Emano ingon man sa dakbayan sa Cagayan de Oro for welcoming back the return of Shell chess in our midst. Maka inspire kini pag-ayo sa mga batan-on nga magkugi pagtuon sa chess nga dakong tabang sa mga pobre nga estudyante,” added arbiter Lorenzo “Jun” Cuizon. (LLS)
