Formed barely two years ago, lead dancer Arnie Parcon could not even recall the number of events they have danced with.
But in an interview with this writer last Sunday at the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (Must) where they were practicing, Parcon said the most exciting events in a year they are looking forward to are the city-wide dancing contests that are usually organized during December.
The biggest prize they had reaped so far was being first runner-up in the Metro Dance Battle in May 2009 as organized by Daddy Gabz Bacarro’s own Cagayan de Oro Talent Center.
Dfault Cru was originally composed of Sped students at Must when it was yet known as Mindanao Polytechnic State College back in September 2008.
The Sped students needed a representative in the college intramurals and Dfault Cru was hurriedly formed.
By December 2008 as the group’s reputation outside campus increased and increased, they decided to get members from other colleges.
Now, the group is composed of 19 members not just from other colleges but also high schools in the city.
Parcon is confident that the hip hop community in Cagayan de Oro City indeed has a bright future since “since our dancers here are being `feared’ and looked up by hip hoppers from other places such as Cabadbaran and Pagadian City.”
The other members of Dfault Cru are Ariel Parcon Jr., Stephen Ian Pimentel, Rejun Erojo, Jherrie Lou Labis, Carla Incarnacion, Vanessa Basalan, Bil Ilogon, Clark dela Torre, Eric Ramonal, Chris Barrera, Ahmad Papandayan, Jan Eric Rodas, Emerson Macatual, James Jabiniao, Robert Acero, Rey Montiza, Arvic Martinez and Ralph de Pano.
