The Energy Development Corp. (EDC), the Lopez Group’s renewable energy unit, may now put up a wind farm in Camiguin after it got the thumbs up from the Energy Department.

The company applied for wind projects in Camiguin, Dinagat and Surigao, with an estimated cost of P7 million each. The Camiguin project has a capacity of 5 MW as initially reported.

The country’s first wind project, the 33-MW wind farm of NorthWind Power Development Corp. is in Bangui, Ilocos Norte is the biggest wind farm in Southeast Asia to date.

If plans push through, this will be the first wind project in Northern Mindanao, which also hosts the country’s largest grid-c0nnected solar power plant owned by Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co., Inc. located in Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City.
