Cagayan de Oro tennis sensation Francis Casey Alacantara and partner American Raymon Sarmiento launched their title bid with a scary 6-4, 0-6, 10-4 triumph against Slovakians Filip Horansky and Jozef Kovalik at the start of the French Open boys’ doubles event at the Roland Garros in Paris.

Recalling the form that won them the Mitsubishi International Open doubles title in Manila late March, Alacantara and Sarmiento took the first set but dropped the second frame without winning a game.

However, they managed to regain their bearing in the third set where they engaged their rival in a fierce battle.

Their victory more than made up for loss of Jeson Patrombon in the singles event.

Patrombon, who beat Serbian Miki Jankovic, 6-3, 6-1 in the first round, lost to Duilio Beretta of Peru in the second round, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-2.

Patrombon fought courageously in the second frame to even the set at 1-1 but he lost steam in the pivotal match.

Alcantara is looking for his second Grand Slam title after winning the doubles crown in the Australian Open with Taiwanese Hsieh Cheng Peng last year.
