Cagayan de Oro City is known for Adventure Tours. Then, Heritage Tours were developed owing to the city’s heritage sites. Now, the city also has Museum Tours. This would spell boom in the city’s growing tourism industry.

During the International Museum Day last May 18, the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, through the City Government, sponsored a museum trip experience for the Division of City School and Cagayan de Oro Christian School teachers. The tourists for the museum trip were Sibika teachers of different divisions of city schools, and English and Sibika teachers of Cagayan de Oro Christian School teachers.

As part of the Museum Tour, they visited four museums in the city, Water Tower, La Castilla, Museum of Three Cultures and DXCC Museum. Actually, Museo de Oro at Xavier University brings to five (5) in the city.

The tour started in Water Tower Museum (shown above), where the artifacts retrieved from Huluga Caves are stored and kept preserved. The remains of the Himologans, the first settlers of Cagayan de Oro City, can also be found here. The Water Tower Museum, managed by City Heritage Council, is yet to be an official museum. Soft opening of the museum was on International Museum Day; official opening will be on May 28, on National Flag Day.

The museums showcased lifestyle, culture and history. The Museum of Three Cultures below showed the city’s rich heritage.

The La Castilla Museum of the Pelaez family near Liceo de Cagayan University was the next stop. The Museum can be seen beside Maharlika Bridge.

Their last stop was the DXCC Museum along Velez Street. It is where Henry R. Canoy established the Radio Mindanao Network (RMN) that has become the largest radio network in the country today. Canoy is considered the Father of the Electronics and Broadcasting Industry in Cagayan de Oro and in the country. In 1952, listeners would hear “You are tuned to Station DXCC, broadcasting with a power of 500 watts on 1560 kilocycles from Cagayan de Oro – Gateway to Mindanao!”

Hey, don’t you know that the city also has Industrial Tours? Lost of groups from all over Mindanao converge in the city for Industrial Tours, visiting various industrial plants in the city and Misamis Oriental, afterall, NorMin hosts the Cagayan-Iligan Industrial Corridor.
