Cagayan de Oro’s Lumbia Airport registered 1,110,668 passenger traffic volume in 2009, up 23.1% from 2008, based on data from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). Significantly, it’s the first time in the airport’s history that it exceeded the million passenger mark.
The figure placed CDO as having the 5th busiest airport in the country, after Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Davao International Airport and Iloilo Airport.
Interestingly, of the six (6) busiest airports in the country in 2009, only Lumbia hasn’t undergone a major reconstruction with no new large airport facilities, yet still handles higher passenger traffic. Davao, Iloilo and Bacolod have new airports. Expect the passenger volume to go up significantly when the Laguindingan Airport opens in a few years.
Below is the more detailed figures for CDO Airport. Based on the data, more passengers still prefer Cebu Pacific.
