CENSUS enumerators will be out to all locations in Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City to conduct interviews to households on Monday, May 17.

The National Statistics Office (NSO) said the enumerators’ task is to obtain data on the size, composition and distribution of the population of the province and housing characteristics.

They will be asking each household about birth, registration, disability, literacy, school attendance, place of school, highest grade/year completed, residence five years ago, overseas worker, usual occupation, kind of business, class of worker, place of work, fertility, religion, citizenship, ethnic group, disability and functional difficulty and determine their geographic location.

They would also take stock of the housing units existing in their assigned locality and get information about their geographic location, structural characteristics and facilities, etc.

The NSO said obtained information on the characteristics of the barangay will be used as basis for urban-rural classification.

This national event will take a special place in the history of statistical milestones in the country.

The NSO in Northern Mindanao earnestly prays for cooperation and support from the general public and households in Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro.

Commonwealth Act 591, Executive order 121 and Executive Order 352 mandates the NSO as the sole government agency to undertake Census of Population and all other censuses.

The Census of Population (PopCen) shall be undertaken to provide current data on population counts, which shall be the basis for the Internal Revenue Allotment and the creation of new local government units (LGUs) and/or conversion of some existing LGUs to higher level, pursuant to the provisions of the 1991 Local Government Code (RA7160).

This also includes gathering of basic information about each individual such as age, sex, civil status, education and other demographic characteristics.

The NSO is asking the involvement of the tri-media (television, radio and print) through their active role in the previous censuses as its partner in the information dissemination campaign relative to the conduct of the census.
