Cagayan de Oro’s Roldan Sara made it to the 15-man Nokia RP U-18 pool which left for the United States Tuesday night to undergo further training under famed college mentor and former National Basketball Association (NBA) assistant coach Ed Schilling in preparation for the Fiba-Asia U-18 Championships set in September 22 to October 1 in Yemen.
The members of the pool were formally announced in a dinner tendered by sponsors Nokia Philippines and TAO Corporation for the team officials, family and friends at the Cafe of Champions at the TAO Corporate Center in Makati last Thursday.
Also making the squad handled by Eric Altamirano are Russel Escoto, Kevin Ferrer, Jeth Troy Rosario, Von Pessumal, Michael Pate, Gwyne Capacio, Mike Tolomia, Jeron Teng, Joshua Angelo Alolino, Cederick Labing-isa, Paolo Romero, Raphael Banal, Kiefer Ravena and Kyle Neypes.
Ferrer, Pessumal, Pate, Tolomia, Teng, Alolino, Sara, Labingisa, Romero, and Ravena were the holdovers from the Nokia RP U-16 team that placed a fighting fourth and reached as far as the semifinals of the first-even Fiba-Asia U-16 Championships in Johor Bahru, Malaysia last year.
Nokia Philippines general manager Benoit Nalin, TAO Corporation president Jun Sy and Head of Nokia Pilipinas Youth Basketball Program Joel Lopa wished the players well as they will surely gain more basketball knowledge from Schilling.
