The area intended for the Laguindingan Airport Development Project covers a total 393,494 hectares including 24.196 hectares allocated for the completed 4.4 km 4-lane access road connecting the airport to the national highway. But the current airport development covers only 153 hectares. The rest of the area will be used for future expansion of the airport including an extension of the runway up to 3 kilometers.
It was known that Ayala Corp. (Diamond Cement Industrial Corp.) donated the land for the project, with the surrounding areas intended for a Light Industrial Park as part of the Cagayan-Iligan Industrial Corridor Masterplan.
I chanced upon a map on the web (shown above) authored by a real estate agent showing the airport site (colored green on the map) and areas owned by Ayala (light blue). Interestingly, the map also includes areas recently acquired by Ayala (dark blue). The red areas are the properties being sold by the agent. Basically, most of the surrounding areas comprise an Ayala Estate.
Once the airport will be fully operational, I expect business to pick up in the vicinity. I also assume that Ayala has plans for their “estate”. Perhaps, in the next ten (10) years, more development will be inevitable.
