Various media practitioners from media organizations and officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in region 10 have gathered in an environmental forum which is slanted towards environment protection and global warming.
The forum is in line with the upcoming celebration of Earth Day 2010 and DENR?s advocacy on climate change.
“Climate change is a phenomenon that is already apparent with the change in our periodic and regular climate situation in the Philippines,” Regional Executive Director Maximo O. Dichoso of DENR in region 10 said.
Sabdullah C. Abubacar, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-Northern Mindanao Chief, on the other hand, said that global warming is a change of temperature in the Earth?s surface because of greenhouse gases.
Meanwhile, Abubacar said that Earth Day 2010 is much more different than the previous one because it is centered on disseminating information and addressing the global warming crisis.
“Our primary focus is on environmental education campaign. We have scheduled a three-series of environmental youth camp seminars within this April in Mapawa, in coordination with the industries in the region,” said Abubacar.
“We will also be sponsoring the ?Alay Lakad? for information to keep people aware of this current problem on global warming,” he further said.
The environmental media forum is a monthly activity of DENR in Northern Mindanao as part of their undertaking in protecting the environment. (PIA)
